START PROGRAMME
WHAT IS START?
START is a junior development programme that is a year-long interdisciplinary series of workshops and lectures designed to teach first-year undergraduates the fundamentals of rocketry and propulsion through hands-on projects.
This creates a pipeline for progression within the society leading to lateral learning, with older members passing their knowledge down to younger members to ensure the continued success of the society.
LECTURES
START members have weekly lectures, alternating between internal lectures from our Team Leads and guest lecturers. Guest lectures are open to all members of the society, and we are very grateful to all of the lecturers that support the professional development of our newest members.
We are lucky enough to have an extensive series of guest lecturers, bringing together industry, academia, and regulatory bodies, to ensure our members are well-versed in a broad range of rocketry-related topics.

START moves from strength-to-strength, with over 70 students passing through so far.

PROJECTS
Members of START have the opportunity to apply their knowledge immediately through supervised projects. Past projects have included the L2 Rocket "Chaos-1" and our Mach-23 competition entry "Eligius".

Currently, START members are working on designing and building their own low-power rockets, allowing them to individually practice all of the elements of rocketry, instead of working on an isolated system. Launches will be NET March 2024.
